Don Morreale's scooter trip to the Mississippi River

A written account of the transcontinental scooter journey to raise money for SOS Children's Villages of India, along with some photographs of the trip. So far nearly $7000 were raised for this cause.


  • Centennial citizens are safer from West Nile Virus due to the bat houses built and installed by Centennial Rotary in a local wetlands area. Channel 9 News provided coverage of the event.
  • Arbor Day saw Centennial Rotarians join with the city parks department and local Boy Scout Troups to plant trees in a local open space.
  • The Allie Foundation, which provides trained tracking dogs to local law enforcement officers, benefited from a contribution from Centennial Rotary. The foundation was created in memory of Allie Barelez, a young girl kidnapped and murdered. Her case is unsolved and her remains were found by a police bloodhound.
  • Centennial Rotary gave a $200 grant to Carly Ostedgaard, daughter of Rotarian Kent Ostedgaard. Carly, and a group of CSU students, spent spring break assisting families on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The need is so great, so Centennial is now collecting bicycles and children’s clothes for Carly’s second trip to the reservation.
  • Centennial Rotarians embarked upon their first literacy project. The club adopted classes at Carl Sandburg Elementary School and members spent 30 minutes each week listening to children read. It was so gratifying and impressive to see the weekly improvement in the reading skills.
  • Donated a $1000 gift card from American Furniture to Gateway Battered Women Shelter
  • Awarded a $1200 college scholarship to a Cherry Creek DECCA student.
  • Sponsored a RYLA student
  • Centennial is planning to host our second exchange student, a teenager from Italy.
  • The Club’s Centennial Project was to provide a needed display case for the Smoky Hill Library. The case is in the lobby of the new 42,000 square foot library and a Rotary plaque will be added, acknowledging that the case was provided by the Centennial Rotary Club. Estimated cost of the project is $1700- $2000.
