The Presidents Corner
Thanks so much to our members who have recently signed up to be on the Centennial Rotary Yahoo Group. That is going to make it really easy to quickly communicate with everyone in the club. Thanks also to Dan Ruparel for "riding herd" on this project, along with the web site, BestRotary.com. Dan is out of town right now, but he's the one to contact if you need help or have questions. If there are members who are not able to get on the group because of a firewall at their business, we will need to identify them, so we can use another way of announcing things to them Have a great week!!
New Member!! Paul Meadows, sponsored by Jennifer Holschuh, was voted in as a new member of Centennial Rotary on February 15th! Paul is with the Law Offices of Kerry S. Hada, P.C. at 6426 South Quebec Street. His wife is Jodie. We extend a big welcome to our newest member!!

Dear Presidents (& Fellow Rotarians),
Although I have not formulated a “district wide disaster relief initiative, here are a few quick thoughts as you begin your week:
- Rotarians can donate cash to "The Rotary Foundation/Solidarity in South Asia" Although these donations will not be eligible for Paul Harris Credit, they will be specifically earmarked for disaster relief.
- Since we recently had our Group Study Exchange with Thailand, several Rotarians have expressed an interest in helping there specifically. Here is information on Thailand:
Funds to assist in Thailand can be sent to PDG Krit Indhewat or Miss Danucha Pumitavorn, Director, Rotary Centre in Thailand, 32/f Ocean Tower 2, 75-82-83 Soi Watana, Asoke Road, Watana, Bangkok 10110, Thailand.
- There is a project called the Shelter Box project which provides shelter for up to 10 people. The cost of these boxes is $900. Rotary EClub One has already designated funds for one of these boxes. You may wish to join with them to raise money for Shelter Boxes. For more information, go to www.shelterbox.org.
The needs are overwhelming and it is hard to know where to start; however, we know that cash is what is needed in the short term and any of the three ideas above (or more that can be found on the Rotary website http://www.rotary.org/programs/wcs/disaster/reliefefforts.html ) will support the relief effort.
Warm regards,
Diane (Kessel)

Culinary PRO-AM
Sponsored by the Colorado Beef Council and the Colorado Chefs Association, the Culinary PRO-AM is an special evening with decorated food stations, expertly prepared and delicious food and a bargain filled silent auction. The PRO-AM, in it's 11 th year, is a unique partnership of metro area service organizations, partnered with chefs from Denver's leading restaurant's, private clubs and culinary schools to raise funds for community needs.
The tickets are $50. You'll write your check to the Centennial Rotary Foundation - no middle man. The monies go straight to our foundation. Then, you'll spend a few short minutes on I-25 headed to 58th Street and the Denver Merchandise Mart. There, you'll enjoy all you can eat hors d'oeuvres, mini-entrees and desserts. Wine and micro-brewed beers are included in your ticket price and a full cash bar is also available. Eat and wander through over 30 tables of silent auction items - the perfect place to spend some money on something you might by anyway, and support a local service group.
We're partnering with the Highlands Ranch Rotary Club to sell tickets. They are allocated 100 and are making 25 available to us. I chaired this event for HRRC for the past 5 years and it was a super event. Possibly the easiest fundraiser we'll do. Well, Jake Jabs giving us $1000 took a lot of work on Pete's part but this event has food and wine!
See you Tuesday, May 3rd from 6-8 PM. If you have any questions, please call me at 303-728-7493. This is a PARTY - come and have fun...as Greg would say!!

Habitat For Humanity
"The team of expert Centennial Rotary Volunteer home builders assembled this past Saturday to put in a full day of hard work for Habitat for Humanity.
Members in attendance were:
Alan Gay, Ken Hope, Bob Slyter, Scott Bess, Mark Gale and Pete Ablanczy.
The assignment from the project manager was to install siding, and that was done by the professional mechanics, whose experience ranged from a financial planner, attorney, banker, geologist and real estate broker.
At the end of the day, the group was totally surprised by how straight the siding was installed and everyone congratulated each other.
It was a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for all and we will attempt to seek out other habitat projects for the club."
Regards, Mark Gale

Questions for the deep thinkers in our club--
- If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a song about him?
- If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
- Does pushing the elevator button more than once make it arrive faster?
- Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They are both dogs-right?

Fellow Rotarians,
Just a short note to encourage visits to other clubs in our District for makeups. The reason I'm writing this note is to promote a development within our club to bring back ideas from established Rotary Clubs. You will, I guarantee you, remember those visits. Just this past Friday, I was asked to attend the Evergreen Club. Wow what a club! They were interested in our success in the Russian project. Thanks to many of those responsible in our club, I was able to give them a notebook of our great event. ( Remember Greg's party ? )
After the meeting, they formed a committee & are proceeding forward. Back to the Evergreen Club. They meet every Friday at 7:00 AM. The room is filled is with most of their 130 membership. The President needs to wear a mike & a hand held is passed to different speakers during the meeting. They are doing so much-- that the announcements & actual meeting starts about 7:15 until 8:30. What is really neat, is their membership. I bet it is close to 50% each women & men. I was amazed at the number of married couples in their membership--17 couples in the club! I'm going to find out how they work the dues, etc. on a joint membership. Possibly, we could offer this to those interested in married couples or a company joint membership. I left their meeting energized. They chartered 20 years ago. So, I see us 15 years from now in mirroring their club. Only sad note is there are only 3 chartered members left alive. Can you imagine the old cronies in 15 years that were the chartered members of our club?
For your information here is the list of the magnificent twelve: Pete,Tom,Laurie,Marc,Roxy,Kent,Barbara,Bryan,Mark,Bob,Hank, & Jeff---If I forgot anyone, I stand to be corrrrrrrected! E-club is great I guess, but a real honest to goodness visit to other clubs is important for our club development. Take a flag & exchange with the club you are visiting. Get Rotarized in your visits & makeup’s! See you all next week.

Thanks to the following members for attending the District Quad Rotary Foundation Dinner: Jeff Piercy, Randy Pote, Barbara Medina, Marcos Strafacce, Dan Hoopes, Dan Ruparel, Tom Buck, & Paul Horiuchi, & all the spouse and son's of attending members too! It was a great evening with a special guest speaker, President of Rotary International, Glenn Estess. Our seats were in the front row and the food was wonderful. Possibly next year, we can move up from two tables to three or four. It is a eye-opening experience to here all the great & wonderful contributions Rotary is making within our communities & the world. We also owe our attendance, in respect to the leaders in our District and Rotary International.

Bryan Mogg a big thanks for your hard work, by providing great weekly programs! We all appreciate the hard work in securing interesting weekly programs. The Excelsior Youth Center breakfast was the tops last month. The meeting was well attended & what a super breakfast & meeting. Urleshea,
from the youth kitchen, provided us with a hard luck story changing into a promising future. Excelsior is making a difference in many young ladies, caught up in the reality of a tough world! A few of us stayed after the breakfast for a tour of the facility. We should be proud, as a club, for our support of this wonderful center for young ladies.
How about the magic show on 2/8 from Trapdoor Entertainment. Jeff realized his wedding band was exchanged for a Captain Hook ring once he got home.
