The Holiday Spirit

Our very own member, Greg Cottrell, sang with the Colorado Choir and Chorus Organization, a vocal group of 60 trained musicians that has performed throughout Colorado and Europe, and Greg's wife Pat has been the choir's acclaimed accompanist for 23 years! The choir presented a Christmas concert of classic and traditional vocal literature on Friday, Dec 3rd and on Tuesday, Dec 7th.

FYI…

Thank you to Greg Cottrell, Jeff Piercy and Bryan Mogg for their contributions to this newsletter. What are your thoughts on the news letter name that Jeff suggested? Also, my apologies for the delay in making this issue available!

Centennial Rotarians,

The Colorado Community Newspapers are going to help Rotary International celebrate our 100 the university of Rotary. This past Friday Jennifer, Dan, & Jeff attended a very interesting meeting to discuss a partnering arrangement with our local newspapers about the distribution of a Anniversary Edition. The clubs in concert with this project are: Centennial. Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Parker, DTC, University Hills, Castle Rock, and Englewood.

In a nutshell the Newspapers will publish in the 14th or 21st week of Feb. 2005 a tabloid section highlighting the history of clubs in this area. They will provide membership information, list our newly formed Website, have stories about the 4 avenues of service, youth programs, exchange students, and stories of Rotarians as featured stories, and more articles about our clubs and Rotary in general. Diane Kessel, our District Governor, is behind this project 100%. This publication isn't going to cost any of our clubs a single dollar from the newspapers. They are asking for anyone needing advertising to consider running an advertisement in this section. The rates are going to be very affordable, with a deadline of January 28, 2005.

To give you an idea here are some of the advertising costs for this publication: Full page $1495--Half page $795--Quarter page $495--Eight page $275--Business card $150-- Process color $250--Spot color $125. For advertising information contact: Offices--Castle Rock @ 303-688-3128 or Littleton @ 303-794-7877. This will be a very well planned edition about Rotary. They are even going to give us extra copies for our new Membership packets at no cost to our clubs. Consider helping out, if advertising is needed in your business, as your cooperation and consideration would be greatly appreciated. This project will provide more information to the public about the World of Rotary and our goals and our celebration of 100 years. It will also help in Rotary Internationals' goal of increasing membership from 1.2 Million Clubs Worldwide, in 166 countries, to 1.5 Million Clubs by the end of 2005 Rotary year!

Fellow Centennial Rotary Members,

With the New Year just around the corner, most of us make New Year resolutions ( like going to the gym more, making a million bucks, being more productive at home & work,, losing the round object above what used to be our waistline, treating our love-ones in a much better way, or maybe just being a better person). Every year we get a new, clean slate to work on! This brings me to my resolution---being a much better Membership Chairperson. Centennial Rotary Club is the third club I've been a part of in the past twelve years. All clubs have their very special & unique personalities. We have one of the best foundations of a newly formed club. With the leadership of Kent, Barbara, Tom & even Jeff as Presidents, our club has already reached recognition in our Rotary District as a active and positive force in our community and world. We have more fun than any other club I know.

Most visitors become instantly impressed with our camaraderie and spirited meetings. In other words, we have fun and enjoy our contributions to our club. We are stuck though! Our active membership is in the mid twenties. Our total membership still hangs around thirty. Better progress in all our efforts will work better with increase membership. Increased membership not just in numbers; but with numbers of members wanting to belong to an organization that is active and vital to the world of Rotary. I want to ask each of you, as members of Centennial Rotary, to make an effort to increase our membership. Think about good friends, business acquaintances, possibly someone in your church or synagogue, your Doctor, or Veterinarian, or anyone with the special quality of accepting the role of being a Rotarian. I'm not pushing for a large club. I think part of our excellence is because of our size ( I'm not talking about height Frank ). My personal goal is to have forty members by the end of Tom's term as President at the end of June 2005. If a third of our members sponsored someone, my goal is achieved. Once we increase our membership, we need to spread the workload within our membership. If a new member joins just to belong to a club, he or she has selected the wrong organization. Help our club with your interest in a growing membership. Check out the excellent weekly programs Bryan has worked so hard for us to enjoy & BRING A FRIEND!

-Thanks, Jeff
