Presentation
Ken H., as president of the Centennial Rotary Foundation, called to order the annual meeting. With 17 members present, a quorum was present.
First order of business was the election of a new trustee to replace Pete, who's 3 year term expired. With nominations from the floor, Pete was nominated to continue for another 3 years by Tex and seconded by Mark P. With no other nominations, Pete was unanimously re-elected.
Ken discussed the financial report, submitted by treasurer Barbara and passed out to each member. He highlighted three fundraisers, the peach sale headed up by Jennifer, the beverage sales in Littleton, headed up by Mark G. and Mark P. and the State of the City, headed up by Greg and committee. Greg mentioned that Pete has already secured verbal commitments from title sponsor, Jeppesen and two other banks as contributing sponsors. He has feelers out to about 5 others and the financial base for the event is secure. Greg's committee will begin meeting next week.
Ken talked about a trip to Denver Children's Home last week, where he and Randy met with Jerry, the executive director and Rebecca, his assistant. The ensuing tour gave them both good ideas for upcoming projects, possibly with other Rotary Clubs.
Tex pointed out that the event, while very successful in raising money last year, cannot be counted on to expand. He also reminded the Club that it's important to know that the city doesn't want the fundraising aspect of the event to be exploited.
Ken agreed and shared that the Board has no expectations and is pleased that any monies are garnered for the Foundation. The goal of the Foundation is to establish a corpus of $100,000.
Ken then shared the history of the Foundation's scholarship and the Board's disappointment in not getting a candidate last year. The Foundation would like to make the scholarship an on-going one that a student would get for each of their four years in college. Continual tweaking of the way it is awarded and the requirements of the student is going on. New guidelines may be drawn up. Several comments came from Jeff and Dan H. With time running short, Randy explained more in depth the trip to Denver Children's Home last week. There is a good possibility that candidates for the scholarship can come from there. Randy also mentioned that Roxy has turned in a qualified application and references from a family friend. The presentation was wrapped up with every member receiving a "piggy bank" to fill up between now and June 30. The money raised will be donated to the Foundation. The concept was developed by Roxy and Pete has set up two donated dinners for the member who's pig is the heaviest and for the one that has the most money in it. Randy asked members to "scheme" by buying a $1.06 item at the store with $2. This example would put $.94 in the pig.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:33.
Marbles
Pete was absent and other Club members were absent-minded and no tickets were sold this week. Alas, the pot, near $800 will be available next week.
