Announcements

  • Kent introduced guests: Tom Buck introduced his neighbor Paul Helman and his son-in-law, Jason Williams. Laurie introduced fellow librarian, Janet Schneider.
  • Kent pitched upcoming RYLA again. High school students, either sophomores or juniors are needed.
  • Roxy attended the Littleton Sunrise recent function held at ACC. She said it was a very good event.
  • Roxy had upcoming event list and duty rosters on the tables.
  • Dan H. was absent because he was meeting with Home Depot and the Denver Children's Home to firm up plans for March's painting project. Again kudos to Bob Slyter and Dan H.
  • One of the sheets on the table was info about a business luncheon sponsored by Rotary featuring ethics.
  • Roxy needs volunteers to assist with the interview process of an Ambassadorial Scholar candidate.
  • Next week's meeting will be led by Laurie, fresh from her training at this weekend's PETS.
  • Again, please make plans to attend District Conference in April.
  • Board meeting Weds. a.m.
  • Project Cure sorting will be Weds. p.m.
  • Bob shared with the Club a new fundraising idea for Project Cure. It involves recycling cell phones and ink cartridges.
  • Jennifer said that all but two of the corporate tables have been sold for our Signature project.

Happy Bucks

  • Jennifer sauntered throughout the room collecting bucks from the following:
  • Pete for the way the State of the City function is progressing. Jeppeson is again the Presenting sponsor and most of the other sponsorships have been obtained.
  • Jennifer for Pete's great work on the State of the City.
  • Jeff because the transfer of money from the sale of his business is to happen today. Now he can afford Paul's dentist work next week.
  • Dan R. because of the realization that we are a communist club, for pulling a "Hugh" in almost being late this morning and because his indoor cricket team has started the season 3-0.
  • Hugh because he wanted to know what a "Hugh" is.
  • Frank gave a buck 'cause he felt obligated and wants the Club to stop all the "sophomoric" humor.
  • Roxy paid to announce Laurie's birthday a week early.
  • Tom B was a only a dollar happy to see Yong back.
  • Laurie gave money in celebration of the three guests.
  • Paul because he was scooting and because he was glad to see "new member" Jeff.
  • Bob in celebration of Home Depot's donation.
  • Randy just because.

Speaker

David Goldberg, a partner in the Alberta Development Group.

The locally-owned company is developing the new "The Streets at Southglenn." Both partners live less than five minutes from the mall. Their hope is to make the development very special and have held numerous meetings to illicit opinions from the community. Sears and Foley's (soon to be Macy's) will stay open during the construction. The City of Centennial has an urban renewal policy and David hopes he doesn't have to use it to get rid of the last hold-out, Sonic Burgers, who doesn't want to close. The demo of the existing facility will start in early May and although the developers want to recycle as much of the material as possible, there is asbestos in much of it. Construction should take 2 years and will include, 1,000,000 square feet of retail, 100,000 of office space (including medical hopefully) and 350 lofts/condos. The condos will probably go to empty nesters and over 600 people are on a waiting list for them.

There will be some traditional national retailers (5 or 6 boxes), but hopefully many local, small boutique-type stores. A five story parking garage will sit next to the 16 screen Harkin Cinema. Residents will park underground and there will be 5 spots for 1000' of development. In closing, David said that they are looking for a development similar to the feel in Cherry Creek North with 20' wide sidewalks instead of the standard 8'. He added that the City of Centennial has been great to work with.

Marbles

Mark Gale took home the $10 only. Next week's pot starts at $973.
