Announcements
- Ben Digmann was inducted into our Club by Randy. Membership chair Mark Gale presented Ben with his first Rotary pin.
- Roxy announced that her husband, James, will make application next week.
- Tom B. share some thoughts about his recent trip to Cambodia, which was aided by some sort of strange letter from Roxy. He also reminded members about this Friday's get-together at their home. In addition to snacks, Barbara will make chili and Kent will bring homebrew. If you want something else, bring it. Tom also brought back a travel gift, a cool puppet/doll from Cambodia.
- Greg gave us good news about how the planning for the State of the City function is going. Sales are still brisk.
- Jennifer presented her travel gift from a recent trip to New Mexico. While thinking about Bob S. and the bat houses, she found "Bat Guano" and while thinking about ??, she brought back handcuffs. Actually it is a puzzle.

- Ben has his team in the semi-finals of the basketball tourney.
- Jeff P. just because.
- Pete gave a dollar in apologizing for a smart alec remark.
- Tex gave a buck in celebration of Roxy's letter for Tom.

- Randy donated a dollar for Paul H. not being at the meeting, as his wife Mary had an early morning appt.
- Tom B. also donated some Cambodian money.

Program
Don Gallegos, past president of King Soopers.
Don retired from King Soopers on 4/17/97 and before the year's end, gave 18 talks on "customer service." In 1998, he gave over 40 and hired an agent. Explaining that customer service applied to any business, he shared one his most interesting groups, the Colorado Funeral Directors Assn. When he entered the room, there were tables filled with mini-caskets and mini-plastic flower arrangements.
King Soopers was founded in Arvada in 1947 by Lloyd King. King started with one store and 9 employees. There were 7 other grocery companies at the time and with the exception of Safeway, they are all gone. Don said that King understood service and turned out to be his mentor.
Some bullet points from the rest of his great talk:
- People don't know good customer service until they get it. You will change stores when you get it.
- Empower an employee or don't hire them.
- Have a policy, but use judgment to allow outside policy decisions.
- When you make a policy change, think about the customer.
- Customers are not always right, but they are the customer.
- "I want the customer, I'm not interested in winning."
- He has written a book, "Win the customer, not the argument."
- People don't go to work everyday to mess up, they must be poorly trained if they do.
- Provide a good work climate.
- Do what nobody else will do.
- Your attitude is infectious to everyone.
- Life is short, you are dead a long time.
- He sold copies of his book and CD's. The money garnered from those sales goes to his foundation and a facility to help the poor.

Marbles
Kye's ticket was drawn and shucks, drew a clear marble. Next week's pot starts at $1080.
If you missed this meeting, you missed a GREAT ONE!! But most of all, WE MISSED YOU!!
