President Roxy rang the bell at7:32

We had no visitors today, reported by Kent

Announcements:

  • The GSE team has changed some dates.
  • A sign-up sheet was passed around to assist with driving them around to their vocation locations.
  • We will have a joint meeting with Highlands Ranch on 5/2 at our regular location.
  • Roxy reminded us of the upcoming District Conference.
  • There were more compliments regarding the recently held State of our city event.
  • More discussion was held about our potential participation in the Arapahoe County Fair. We have been asked to handle the beverage concession and the concerns are about the size of our Club and availability of members to help. The County really wants our help and we are trying to involve other Clubs.

Happy Bucks

Jennifer handled the collections-

  • The front page of the Villager Newspaper and inside pages had excellent photos and dollars were given for that.  Also for the exclusion of Roxy and Mark Garfinkel.
  • Other monies were given for birthdays and scooting.

Program

Don Cook of the Second Wind Foundation spoke with us.  He is a member of Kiwanis.

Regarding teen suicide prevention, Mr. Cook said that it is a big mistake to publicize the suicides, as more suicides seem to follow.  Sky Ridge Medical Center is a big sponsor of prevention programs.  Counseling is important and money for that comes to Second Wind through service clubs.  Initially high school is where the counseling starts, but middle school is where it should begin.  The statistics show that there are no barriers to the problem, rich, poor, ethnic etc.  Statistics also show that the program\'s success is very encouraging and efforts are spreading thoughout the metro area, even nationwide.  There are two fundraising events planned for the future.  September 14 is the date for a golf tourney at the Ridge at Castle Pines North and there is also a 5K run scheduled for November 11.

Marbles:

Gratefully, Tom Buck (who held tickets for several scooters) drew a clear marble from the ever-empting bag.  Tom took home the consolation prize of $10 and the pot carries over.

ATTENDANCE IS LACKING!!
Remember, the success of our Club and Rotary world-wide is dependent on all members attending as many meetings as possible.  YOU MISSING ROTARIANS KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND YOU MUST KNOW THAT YOU ARE NEEDED AT OUR MEETINGS!  (The previous comments come from your newsletter editor, Randy)
