Announcements

  • Our only guest was invited and introduced by Tom Cycyota.  Val Reyman is an executive at Tom’s company.
  • Rotary minute by Kent—Another reminder about next Weds. 6/7 Charter night for the new Club in Parker.  Kent told how exciting Charter night’s are and encouraged members to attend.  Roxy has directions and said that so far she, Kye, Nikki and Kent are planning on taking our donation of lanyards to the occasion.
  • Roxy shared the thank you note from the Winter Park/Fraser Valley Club for our gift of lanyards on their Charter night.
  • Laurie reminded members about the weekend’s District Assembly and that next Weds. the new Board will meet with the existing Board.
  • June 13 will be the big weigh-in of our pigs.  Remember to keep stuffing the with loose change (or bills).  There will be two prizes, one for the heaviest and one for the most money collected.  If we have time that day, James and Ben will do their Craft talk.
  • Please contact Jennifer regarding our volunteer work with the Project Cure sorting.
  • We will be dark on June 27th.  That evening will be our 1st annual Changing of the Guard celebration.  The host is to be determined, but it will be a potluck and Hawaiian is the theme for dress.
  • Randy reported that he received an e-mail from Paul Meadows.  He is putting the house on the market and the family should join him in Liberia soon.  He will be sending us photos of the recipient of our recent computer donations.
  • Frank and Linda Loner will celebrate their 37th anniversary this week.  Barb Medina will celebrate her ?? birthday next week.
  • This is a newsletter-only announcement.  The theme for next month’s food donation to Sox Place will be Mexican.  Please bring refried beans, Spanish rice, tortilla chips, salsas, taco shells and anything else from the Mexican section in your favorite grocery store.  We will collect monetary donations one meeting next month to pay for meat, cheese etc.  Thanks in advance!!

Happy Bucks

  • Kent gave a buck to celebrate his recent trip to Iowa for a family reunion.  He had a wonderful time and saw some old-time relatives.
  • Dan H. gave money in thanks for living in a country that celebrates its veterans that died protecting us and our country.  Memorial Day.
  • Kye came up with cash to celebrate their son’s upcoming second birthday.
  • Pete gave a dollar to announce that Karli Wurpel is the candidate that will receive our $1500 scholarship and that her project will involve painting pigs to raise money for “Families First”.
  • James was not waving at Jennifer to donate, but scratching an itch.  Both he and Roxy donated Happy Bucks in relief that the final graduation party for their senior daughter is finally over.
  • Randy gave $2 just because.
  • Tom B. gave a dollar to commemorate the Chinese dinner they went to last weekend with their daughter and son-in-law.  They all got the same fortune cookie that announced the upcoming arrival of a new grandchild.
  • Frank gave money for the same reason Dan H. did.  Memorial Day.
  • Tex is a dollar’s worth looking forward to the Cambodian trip.

Program

Tom Buck and Bill Gripman from the Parker Club.
They had a wonderful power point presentation (created by Bill) about their recent trip to Cambodia.

They covered the following subjects:

Water projects—one well project that was done with a matching grant with a local Club and one bio-sand filter project.  That is an experimental project sponsored by a Rotary Club in Rhode Island and Tabitha, a Canadian company.

The wall—A wall around a trade school that partially consists of a school that teaches former teenage protistitutes how to sew.  The school needed the wall to protect and secure the school and was paid for by our Club and other Colorado Rotary Clubs (plus a big push from Bill).  The sewing facility has produced over 25,000 sets of school uniforms.

School supplies--3500 sets of supplies were passed out to elementary school kids.  In the kit was a tablet, pencil, pen, ruler and other stuff.
Glasses--1000 pair of glasses were passed out that had been donated by the Parker Lions Club.

They also toured other areas in Cambodia, passed out donated candy from Mtn. Man and the Bucks gave a new bike to a new student of the sewing school.
A fantastic program by two Rotarians that showed the value of our continued donations to the Rotary Foundation.
