Rotary Minutes
6-20-2006

This the commemorative last meeting notes for Roxy as our president.

rOur meeting began with our delectable Embassy suites breakfast bar. I had the waffles which are downright addictive.

As I returned to the meeting room I noticed several members disingenuously congratulating  Mark Gale for winning the $1500.00 jackpot last week. I thought about this  and realized that there is a conundrum in our Four Way Test. It seems that sometimes telling the truth does not necessarily promote goodwill and friendship. With this in mind I muttered a “Mazel Tov.” To him under my breath.

Now apparently Mark Gale was having difficulty deciding how he was going to spend his new found fortune. I decided to help poor Mark out surveying the club members and came up with a top eleven list:
The top ten ways Mark Gale should spend his winnings

Number Eleven: Breath mints
Number  Ten: Single malt scotch
Number Nine: Great big party
Number Eight: Toupe’
Number Seven: Golf lessons
Number Six: Lap dance
Number Five: Get a Life!
Number Four: Golf outing for the group
Number Three: Lifetime subscription to the Wallstreet Journal
Number Two: Paul Harris Fellowship
And the number one answer………..Buy his beautiful wife a nice piece of jewelry.

Roxy began the meeting and despite it being her last as president, may I say, she looked very presidential. Either that or she was having a bout of gas. Either way she looked great!

She asked Laurie to give the invocation Laurie was surprised at this and Randy Pote came to the rescue with an impressive prayer in which he thanked G-d for just about everything.

Jennifer was asked to lead in the pledge. Now Jennifer will be only a heart beat away from the presidency. I’ve been told that being president –elect is different from being vice- president but even so no one is lining up to go quail hunting with her.

Kent Ostedgaard actually had a Rotary minute today. He discussed that the Rotary International convention will take place this year in Denmark. This annual convention symbolizes the changing of the guard. The end of the Rotary year on June 30 and the beginning of the new year on July1st.

Announcements and Such

Laurie and Mark Gale discussed this years Littleton festival. It was decided that there was enough interest that we would go ahead and participate in selling beverages at the fair, as we did last year. The festival will take place on Saturday, September 9th from 6-10 p.m.

Ken Hope reported that at the last foundation meeting the board voted to contribute $1000.00 plus a $200.00 King Sooper gift certificate to our good friend Ciff “Santa Claus” Dugal who recently had heart complications.

Ken also discussed our scholarship student. Ben and Hugh volunteered to help this student with the community service requirement.

Roxy announced:
That a group of our members accepted a plaque from the City of Centennial for the clubs participation and sponsorship in the State of the City Event.

The club will go dark July 4th

Next Tuesdays meeting will take place at Barb Medina’s house in the evening.
The club will supply chicken, burgers, wine beer and soft drinks. Kye’s husband Doug will supply the entertainment with his band.

It is Brian and Heather’s 8th anniversary. They have a beautiful little girl and  another one on the way .

Jennifer did happy bucks:

  • Mark Gale once again informed us that he was happy about winning. Enough already!
  • Brian for his anniversary
  • Dan for Roxy’s last meeting as president
  • Marc presented a stuffed alligator from Florida for the holiday party auction
  • Kent for Megan making the deans list at CU
  • Randy for Ben bringing a guest
  • Hugh for Roxy and the outgoing board for which Randy called him a “brown noser”
  • Roxy gave many dollars for:
    • volunteers
    • her last a.m. meeting
    • to welcome Laurie
    • next weeks changing of the guard
    • for Alexa’s going to college

Special note: At this point Mark Gale spilled  his drink all over his table a created quite the ruckus.

Roxy then introduced our speaker, Valerie Traina from The Great Plains Restoration Council. This is a group that is dedicated to reversing a century of ecological harm and abuse in the Great Plains. The Great Plains is an area that spans from much of Canada to the Southern USA and includes Colorado. They work to restore wildlife lands to their former glory. Her slide presentation included spectacular wildlife scenes of animals, much of whom are endangered.

Dan had the winning ticket and took home a whopping $15. We were all rooting for him!

Next week we will welcome in Madam President Laurie Christensen.
