Centennial Rotary Meeting Notes

Laurie called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. in Roxy's absence.
Randy did the invocation.
Dan Hoopes led the Pledge and added a brief comment about the passing of Rosa Parks.
Kent introduced the only visiting Rotarian, soon-to-member Kye Holtan-Brown from the Santa Fe Trails Club in Olathe, KS.
Kent's Rotary Minute reminded members to read the monthly "Rotarian Magazine."  This month's issue includes information about Youth Exchange.
Laurie urged members to start getting the Denver Children's Home holiday gifts for Cliff Dougle.  Please remember the exclusions, such as items that include alcohol as ingredients and anything that could be used as a weapon.
Bob S. reminded members about the clean-up at Willow Springs and pizza party that will follow.
Kay reminded members about Wednesday's Project Cure sorting project. and the care package for member Paul Meadows.

Happy Bucks, cheerfully collected by Jennifer included:

Jennifer glad to be back from a "relaxing" vacation with teenagers to NYC?
Dan Hoopes' sarcastic comment about new members and the room appearing smaller. (We were in a "closet" at the hotel.)
Greg thanked the Club for the card and thoughtfulness regarding the peaceful passing of his father.
Tom B. for his trip to NYC
Kay for his husband's fall that resulted in only slight bruising.
Randy for his wife's successful surgery and for spending time with his mother-in-law's 97th birthday in AZ.
Jeff for his dad's move back to the farm from a nursing home.
Hugh's trip to visit his Mom in ND and the Promise Keeper's recent rally in Denver.
Jennifer then presented Jeff with a "very expensive" tie she found at a recent Project Cure sorting night.
Jeff followed that with a comment to Laurie that she was sitting between two "Jarheads" and two "Jarhead Wantabes."

Our program was introduced by Bryan M.
Speaker was Wheat Ridge Rotarian Jaime Yrastorza D.M.D. who is the founder of UPLIFT INTERNATIONALE and OPERATION TAGHOY, which is the Philippine word for whistle.

The mission is to mend the facial deformities in children in the Philippines.  The project includes an annual two-week mission by a 33 member team at a host publicly-funded hospital at NO COST TO THE FAMILY, one child at a time.  The community is also given information about the defects and how they can be mended.  Volunteers, both medical and lay people make the annual trek to do the repairs and share compassionate assistance.  Dr. Yrastorza shared many photos and stories in his presentation and how the Wheat Ridge Club and others have made a difference.  Donations can be made in many ways and just $250 can "adopt" a child.  That small donation allows a Club or person to become an active part of the child's life and the changes the repair to their facial deformity brings.

Fellow Club member Jeff Piercy was moved enough to make the donation to "adopt" a child on the spot.  Well done Jeff.

Marbles pot is at 438.00 and Frank Loner drew a clear marble.  Sorry Frank.
