Centennial Rotary General Meeting

On April 24, 2007

Custodian--Rick
Greeter--Roxy
Invocation--Marc
Pledge--Paul

President Laurie rang the bell at 7:38 a.m.

Announcements

We had one visiting Rotarian--Craig Essex from the Smoky Hill Club.

Rotary Minute

  • Kent spoke on the difference between District Conference and District Assembly.  Conference is a year-end celebration of the year’s activities, hosted by the District Governor and his/her Club.  This year’s was last week in Colorado Springs and Jennifer was in attendance.  Assembly is a 2/3 of a day "school" to teach new Board members about their Avenue of Service or their Board position. It is not only a must for all new members, but very important to the incoming President’s success in their year.
  • Kent also mentioned that the H.R. Club is sponsoring a traveling trophy that goes to the Rotary Club that raises the most money for the Inter-Faith Putt-Putt tournament.
  • Roxy sent around a sign-up sheet for next week’s off-site meeting at Inter-Faith.
  • Dan sent around a condolence card for Cliff.  It didn’t make around to everyone.
  • Laurie welcomed Dan R. back to the Club.
  • Ben will handle the collection and delivery of the donations to Sox Place.  Thanks Ben.
  • Many congratulations to Jenn and her committee on last week’s "State of Our City" function.
  • Hank brought back two travel gifts from his recent trip to Holland.  He brought back a "cheese thing" (cutting board) for the Club Holiday auction and a beer bottle opener for Kent, our resident "brewer."
  • Jenn showed two items left at last week’s function, a box cutter and box of labels. No one claimed them.
  • Jenn also shared with the Club how much she and Robert enjoyed the District Conference.  The best part was past R.I. President Cliff Doctorman.  He is a great Rotarian and very funny.  She also passed out pins stating next year’s theme to all of us.
  • Mark reminded the Club about the upcoming Health Fair on May 5.  We need a bunch of help, so contact Mark please.
  • Laurie’s "Changing of the Guard" party will be on June 23 at Barb’s home.

Happy Bucks

  • Hank--A buck to welcome back Dan R. and a buck for scooting.
  • Jeff--A buck for scooting.
  • Dr. Paul--$3 for scooting.
  • Kye gave money for scooting (must have been the water at that table) and for her students surviving the mid-term.

  • Your editor gave a buck because the Happy Buck collector didn’t go in order during his collection process.

Program

Leader’s Challenge event manager--Heather Ozaroski and two participants, Brett and Chad.

Leader’s Challenge is a non profit that spun of Up With People.  It was founded in 2001 and it helps high school juniors with civics, leadership and community service.  The program for juniors is their flagship program and new one involving international travel has been set-up for seniors.  That program sent 23 students to Costa Rica and Slovakia.

Chad and Brett shared with us their experiences in this year’s leadership program.  Brett is from the small private school, Colorado Academy and Chad is from Columbine High School.

The program sounds a lot like our RYLA program and Heather asked for interested members to sign up for more information.

Marbles

Pete’s number was called and after snaking the $10 bill from the hard hat, drew a clear marble.  The next time we meet, the pot will start at $897 and there will be a 1 in 27 shot at drawing the Bib Blue.
