Centennial Rotary Meeting Notes for: Tue, July 25, 2006

Greeter—Kent
Invocation—James
Pledge—Jack
Notetaker—Jennifer
President Laurie rang the bell at 7:31

Announcements

  • James announced the details on the upcoming Macy’s shopping “fundraiser.”  He has tickets that we need to sell and we keep the entire $10.  In order to be one of the top charities, we should sell the tickets to people who are going to attend the October 10th event.
  • Kent’s Rotary Minute reminded us that  we keep literacy as one of our top priorities.  The Dr. Scooter lead reading program at Sandberg Elementary should keep us in good stead.
  • Marc announced that the August fellowship get-together will also be a good-bye party for the Slyter’s.  We will meet at the Trail Dust at 6:30 p.m.
  • Randy presented a banner from a Club in North Carolina that he visited several months ago.
  • He also announced that our Club generously gave $88 last week for Sox Place.  The money will be used for 1 pound hamburger and sausage that was on sale at King Soopers.  Seems he has a rain check for $1 each as opposed to the regular $2.79.
  • Nikki, who is supposed to be an assistant to Jennifer, announced that the peach pick-up day is August 26th.  Sounds like the “pit”
  • has already been passed to me.
  • Mark G. asked members to mark September 9 on their calendars.  That is the date for the “Wild on Littleton” event that we “person” the beverage stands for.

Happy Bucks

  • Marc G. gave a buck thanking Mark Gale for his hard work.
  • Greg gave a dollar for Nancy Reupert’s continuing hard work on the State of the City function.  The latest was an article in the local paper.
  • Frank for Sox Place.
  • Dan H. for imitating Dr. Scooter and leaving early.
  • Hugh for the Slyter’s leaving and an additional dollar for showing up late and giving Jennifer false hope that he wasn’t going to show.
  • Pote for leaving early for physical therapy.
  • Tom B. for having a bat in the house and thinking about Bob S.
  • $2 from Jack, the first for scooting and the second for his fourth grandchild.
  • The original Dr. Scooter gave $2 for ...DUH!!
  • Nikki gave $2, one for having the tests over (she doesn’t know how she did) and the second for being on a team that shot 21 under in a recent scramble.
  • Hank was a buck happy to be here.
  • James was monetarily happy that Lexi has registered for Chapman College.
  • Dan gave two dollars, one for the Slyters and the second in thanks for a borrowed driver from Randy.
  • Jen gave money for hot cowboys at the Cheyenne Frontier Days.  Next year she is leaving Robert at home.

Program

We had two members give “Classification Talks” today—

Greg C. joined the Navy when younger and served for 4 years.  Cottrell Printing started from his father’s advertising company.  They purchased a printing press to do his catalogs.  When others started asking they would do work for them, the business took off.  They purchased property off Arapahoe Road in 1972 that is now Tom Shane’s jewelry store.  They moved to their present location in January 2000.

Dan R. grew up in Bombay.  He graduated high school in the 10th grade in India.  He had to take grueling tests to graduate early.  He then moved to the US for college.  He started studying Engineering (solar), but eventually changed to Business and Mining.  He moved to Colorado in May, 1985.  He worked in high tech for 18 years and then changed to a dot com business.  He finally changed from that due to extensive travel and internal issues.  With reluctance, he interviewed with MetLife and after interviewing with several companies, accepted the position at MetLife.  He is a huge cricket enthusiast and teaches it in the public schools.

Marbles

Mark Gale’s ticket was drawn and a clear marble emerged from the bag.  The pot carries over.

Missing Rotarians
