SpeakerPolly Letofsky gave us a very informative talk about her fascinating walk around the World. Polly, a resident of Vail traveled one day short of five years walking 14,124 miles and wearing out twenty nine pairs of shoes. Her goal was to raise money for breast cancer. A goal for walking started in her mind as a 12 year old back in 1974, while living in Minnesota. The first man to accomplish this feat, David Coons, was Polly’s inspiration. After getting some really bad advice about breast cancer from her Doctor, Polly quit her job in August of 1999 and started her venture. She worked with thirteen breast cancer organizations on her Global walk. Her greatest help on her walk came from Lion’s Clubs and a few Rotary Clubs. She experienced more than one could ever imagine, walking in temperatures from minus 10 degrees up to 120 degrees. An experience of a lifetime with the end result of raising over $200,000 in US funds for women with breast cancer. Thanks Polly for your wonderful talk and your devotion to your cause!
