Rotary Minute

Kent talked about the importance of attending weekly meetings as Rotary members. 60% attendance is the requirement to be an active member. He told us about makeup’s at other clubs, both in the US or abroad. In fact he said Jeff P made-up in Cabo last week. Tough makeup! Also, he encouraged us to take a club banner to exchange. We are currently starting on a second banner display with the banners from visited clubs.

Happy Bucks

  • Bryan gave a buck for having the most original monster in his home
  • Fred Warnaars told us about the good news for the fundraising mini golf tournament for Interfaith- 16 clubs raised $30,000.- Isn’t that great?
  • Jeff P.gave up his hard held two dollar bill & encouraged the attendance of over 60% that Kent talked about. He bragged about having 15 years of perfect attendance & 16 as of this July. Loy piped in with that’s good Jeff, but he had 37 years of the Perfect Attendance.
  • Kent said he had two graduates in his home. Megan from college & his son from highschool. Congrats Kent!

Speaker

Polly Letofsky gave us a very informative talk about her fascinating walk around the World.

Polly, a resident of Vail traveled one day short of five years walking 14,124 miles and wearing out twenty nine pairs of shoes.

Her goal was to raise money for breast cancer. A goal for walking started in her mind as a 12 year old back in 1974, while living in Minnesota. The first man to accomplish this feat, David Coons, was Polly’s inspiration. After getting some really bad advice about breast cancer from her Doctor, Polly quit her job in August of 1999 and started her venture. She worked with thirteen breast cancer organizations on her Global walk. Her greatest help on her walk came from Lion’s Clubs and a few Rotary Clubs.

She experienced more than one could ever imagine, walking in temperatures from minus 10 degrees up to 120 degrees.

An experience of a lifetime with the end result of raising over $200,000 in US funds for women with breast cancer. Thanks Polly for your wonderful talk and your devotion to your cause!

Drawing
Poor old Dan Hoopes pulled out another clear marble. Next week it will be $1,023 bucks. Some luck dog is going to pull out the blue marble really soon! The only way to win is to be present at our weekly meetings.
