  • Randy gave a buck to apologize to Paul for not going to his 9 a.m. dentist appt.

Program

Pete introduced Dr. Doug Jackson, Executive Director for Project Cure.

He started out by explaining the concept of Globalization with a Princess Diana story. It is was too detailed to repeat.

He showed us a Sacagawea dollar coin and said that 1.2 billion people live on a buck-a-day.  In Ethiopia, 75 million people live on 30 cents a day, or $100 a year.

11 million kids under the age of 5 die each year of preventable diseases.  He asked us all what we were doing about it.

There is no money for health care and 12 1/2 million people were on government food program during the last famine.  Project Cure, in concert with the Clinton Foundation are trying to set-up 2000 clinics in Ethiopia. There isn't even Advil available there.

20 years ago, his father started Project Cure in there garage. Right now Project Cure is in 7 cities across the U.S.  The goal is to be present in 25. They have their own building here thanks to the spearheading of a fundraiser by the Littleton Club.  Jake Jabs gave a million bucks.  He asked us to come back and help sort medical supplies once a month.  The Littleton Club has increased their membership by inviting friends and business contacts to help sort.

Project Cure gives an avenue to change the world and gives no donations without a thorough "needs assessment."

Marbles

Paul's ticket was drawn and in his absence, the $10 was donated to Project Cure and Doug pulled a clear marble.

Missing Rotarians--You know who you are and we want you back.

Sox Place--Please continue to bring your food donations and remember our November 7 meeting will be held at their downtown location.
