Happy Bucks

Marc G. handled the duties and asked the Presidential question first. What President was shot at between his election and his inauguration?

  • Randy for their daughter and granddaughter in attendance.
  • Bryan for the Rockies victory.
  • Jeff P. for the Rockies and the Paul Harris presentation.
  • Jennifer for the Buckeye’s victory and Mary Elizabeth.
  • Bill Eck for our Club supporting the Foundation.

The presidential answer was FDR.

Program

Ken Wiig from the Second Wind Fund Foundation.

He shared with us the perils and increase of teen suicide.

Teenage suicide is the second most leading cause of death in that age group. 90% of these kids are suffering from some form of mental disorder. Only one out of three who suffer from mental disorders seek help. The Second Wind Fund is assisted through donations and community events. The Fund supports individuals who are unable to afford mental health direction. In 2001 and 2002, Green Mountain High School had four students who took their lives and 40 more who were hospitalized from attempts at suicide. The purpose of the Fund is to raise public awareness and offer financial support for low rate counseling. They work with school counselors, therapists and psychologists to target and help students. Nationally suicide rates are up but Colorado suicide rates are down. In high school, the greatest portion of referrals are from other students. Latino girls have the largest numbers of suicides.

Marbles

Kye drew a white marble--what a shame.
