Centennial Rotary General MeetingOn Tuesday, December 18, 2007 Custodian: Barb President Jenn rang the bell at 7:31 a.m. AnnouncementsEric Hoffman was introduced at the only guest this morning. Cliff acted as the "unofficial greeter," seems the assigned one had problems getting to the meeting place on time. Kent’s Rotary Minute consisted of five questions regarding the origination of Rotary. The "Traveling Gift" auction at the annual Holiday party raised over $700. See what quality auctioneers can do. The program will continue and we can make it even better with creative gifts from the area we visit throughout the year. Also, please don’t forget to make up when you miss a meeting. Attendance is the main reason we don’t do well at District Conference with awards. The next Board meeting will be January 3rd. Please contact Jenn with any agenda items. Don’t have info as to where the meeting is! Kent announced that King Soopers is now only selling gift "cards," no longer the paper certificates. Please try to support our Club by buying this each month!! Mary Alice talked about the success of the recent partnership with the Centennial Youth in collecting non-perishable food for the Inter-Faith Food bank. We got pub in several local papers. Happy BucksRandy gave $5 to wish everyone a Happy Holiday and to salute Ken Hope and Frank Loner for their wonderful job as auctioneers at the recent party. Barb coughed up multiple bucks for scooting and taking one of her grandchildren to see Santa. Dan gave a buck for a recent encounter with something to do with the National Association of Disabled Athletes. NADA was the organization that held their fundraising run at INVESCO and we helped as volunteers. Cliff gave a dollar in continuing thanks for our work with him for the Christmas party at DCH. Greg drug out his wallet (it took a while) and donated a buck in celebration for a youth that is now an acclaimed opera singer. He is slated to give them a private concert at their home. ProgramKay Sasser, a counselor at Gateway Battered Women’s Shelter, accepted our donation of $1000 in King Soopers’ gift cards. She said that the donation will feed 40 families for one week. The five points she made to us about battered women were:
She was invited to come back and give an official program, as we had a regularly scheduled program set for this meeting. J. Murray and an assistant from "Solution for Tuition" gave a wonderful program on how to afford college when your kids come of age. They focused on have "Uncle Sam" help through a various number of tax incentives and savings. They pointed out the incredible expense of sending young people to college and said they would help us advertise our scholarship. MarblesWith the pot over $540, Dan H. drew a clear marble and 2008 will start out with a great amount for some lucky Rotarian. Jennifer reminded all that we WILL BE DARK THE NEXT TWO TUESDAYS, 12/25 and 12/31.
Editor’s note:Please keep Mary Pote in your prayers. We found out 12/28 that she is battling cancer again. Thank you!!!
