Centennial Rotary General Meeting

On Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Custodian--Paul
Greeter--Laurie
Invocation--Ben
Pledge--Kent
Notetaker--Frank

President Jennifer called the meeting to order at 7:31 a.m.

Rotary Minute (or so)

Charlie gave an excellent presentation on the Rotary Foundation, their programs and grants. He will share with us in ensuing weeks different ways to donate and how it impacts us.

Kent--Secondary Rotary Minute--Gave us information on the incoming GSE team. They are from the Berlin area and have various vocations. We need to plan their itinerary, as R.I. feels the GSE program has started to become more of a vacation and not the cultural and vocational exchange it is supposed to be.

Ken needs more folks to sign up for the Winter Park train, or we will have to forego this year’s trip.

Next State of our City meeting 2/20. Please contact Laurie to RSVP.

Happy Bucks

  • Pete a scooter buck.
  • Ken is still happy to be here.
  • Hank for 60 days with no hospital stay.
  • Roxy for the opportunity to be trained last Saturday at PDG’s Sargent’s 4-way Test mentoring project.
  • Bryan for their oldest daughter’s 4th birthday and the extremely "pink" party.
  • Randy gave $2 to share the two examples of wearing your Rotary pin and the wonderful people you meet and what good happens.
  • Barb was happy to be here and thanks to Charlie for his presentation.
  • Jenn thanked Charlie for his presentation with a buck.

Program

Lynn Price--Founder of "Camp to Belong."

Her introduction was a tape of a short piece on Good Morning America focusing on the camp she and her sister founded.

She shared with us her story of being a foster child and not knowing until her "real" Mom wanted her back at age 8. She didn’t know she had an older sister until she was a teenager and didn’t bond with her until she visited her sister on her sister’s college campus as a high school junior.

The camp is for foster children that have been separated. It is hoped that the camp will help to prevent foster kids from using the "system" as an excuse to bond with their siblings. She also called it a place of "love."

The organization rents camps in five different states and uses the existing staff to run the camp and their people to help the kids.

This year they will open their first International camp in Australia.

This was a tremendous program and if you had been here, you would know more of the details. You can go to Camptobelong.org for them.

Marbles

Randy drew his own ticket, threw it away and drew one that Roxy held. She pulled a clear marble and the $700 pot continues to grow.
