Centennial Rotary General MeetingOn Tuesday, April 08, 2008 Greeter--???? President Jennifer rang the bell at 7:31 AnnouncementsRotary Minute--Kent asked the Club what the motto of Rotary is and when "Service above Self" was adapted? It was officially approved in 1989. As Kent passed around a sign-up sheet for drivers during the GSE team visit, Mark Gale interrupted the meeting selling tickets, as Pete was missing. Kent announced the schedule for the visiting team: 5/2 they will visit the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office and then travel downtown for a tour of Stranahan’s Distillery and the Great Divide Brewery. On Monday, they will tour Tom Cycota’s tissue/bone company and a large animal vets office. They will then tour the City offices and dine with the City Council. On Tuesday, they will be at our meeting, a joint meeting with the Highlands Ranch Club and then tour the Centennial Airport. We still need a host for the social event scheduled for May 1st. The State of our City final meeting will be Thursday and we will all receive our assignments next Tuesday. So far, 349 of the 350 tickets have been purchased. HOO-HOO! Charlie spoke on the Foundation and how many Board members "bought" into the concept at the recent meeting. He asked us all to either begin to be a sustaining member or to up our pledge per year. We are at 1/3 of our goal with the District this year and Jennifer and Charlie asked the whopping 14 members that showed up this week to help. The possibility of matching funds are also available. Mark Gale asked about the possibility of the Club or Foundation Board to consider buying a Powerball ticket for each of the 104 drawings each year as a fundraiser. Kent will get a State Lottery official as a speaker for an upcoming meeting. The Foundation Board will meet with Courtney Snowberger at Arapahoe Community College on 4/11 at 7 a.m. Happy Bucks
ProgramMarc G. started his introduction of today’s speaker when he was interrupted by a cell phone call. Seems President Lincoln has some questions about his Gettysburg visit/address. Seems Abe kept wanting to 87 years and his "political advisor" reminded him that four score and ... was much better. There was also a discussion about a certain evening’s theatre plan. If you weren’t present at this meeting, you missed Marc at his best in improv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He then introduced Dan R., who shared with us his plans for his campaign. He is running for one of the two slots open on the South Suburban Parks and Recreation Board of Directors. Dan has some great ideas and figures that if 600 people vote for him, he is IN!! Please support him if you live in the District and tell your co-workers and friends that also live in the voting area. Good Luck Dan!! MarblesCharlie had his number drawn and the pot carries over as he drew a clear marble!!
