Announcement

  • Randy: Review of the next three Saturdays to determine which one the most people could participate in with the “Willow Springs Open Space Clean-up”. Breakfast will follow – at Randy’s house. Saturday the 31st is the most popular Saturday. We will meet at Willow Springs Open Space at the Holly Street entrance at 7:00am. Jennifer is bringing drinks. Roxy is bringing the trash bags.
  • Jennifer: Project Cure has a sorting session this Thursday.
  • Mark: June 14th is the Downtown Littleton event. Details to come.
  • Ken: Visitor Announcement: Loy Dickenson, Past District Governor.
    1. Update on “Together with Children”. $15,000 matching grant.
    2. Denver Mile High Rotary having their 2nd Annual “million-dollar hole-in-one” event. Flyers were passed out. $1/per shot. Coupons are on hand for $10/for 20 shots.
  • Randy: Thanks to the folks who supported the “Putt-Putt” event for the Interfaith Community event.
    1. Mary Alice kicked everyone’s “double lower cheeks”….was the best putt-putter.
    2. Ben had success with his item in the silent auction.
  • Randy: Interfaith Community Service has made a request for support. We are asked to have another “grocery store” food drive.

  • Ken: For thanks for involvement for Dan
  • Paul: For golfers and for having to leave early
  • Roxy: Experience for hosting GSE representative. She said it was very valuable and she learned a lot. Also, a second happy buck for her daughter, who came home with “very long hair”. She cut it, and made a donation to “locks of love”.
  • Jennifer: Saw her grandbabies this weekend. (Robert has twin daughters).
  • Brian: Took great bike ride for Mother’s Day. Is looking forward to many more.
  • Loy: Gave us the story of the man who searched for the perfect woman, only to find that she was searching for the perfect man.
  • Dan: For learning a lot about politics. Didn’t win his race, but was asked to be on the board. Second buck for recovering from his bad reaction to medication. Lastly, his Philadelphia trip went well. They didn’t win their cricket game, but it was a good experience.
  • Randy because it is great being with all his “friends” at Rotary.

Program

Our visitor today is Kay Sasser, with Gateway

Discussion about the cycles of abuse. What causes it, what kind of mentality feeds into this type of behavior.

Discussion surrounding recognition of abuse of children. How does recognition occur within schools, social gatherings, etc. What kinds of programs could help identify the occurrences of abuse.

Open discussion about perceptions, opinions, etc.

Douglas County thru the Sherriff’s office has programs and resources to assist. They look for volunteers. Sherriff Weaver is a part of this.

Discussion surrounding why women stay in bad situations. Review of statistics.

Donations Needed: $2,000 needed for a refrigerator and freezer. Another $2,000 needed for 4 desks.


Marbles

Barbara Won but pulled a clear marble. The amount at stake was $1004.


Attendance

We need better attendance and we need to start building for new membership starting July 1. It would be great to start out the new Rotary year with an induction of several new members!!!
