Rotary Minute

Kent talked about Membership again. Please mention Rotary when talking with everyone.

Mark Gale talked about Saturday’s volunteer project. We will be setting up the tailgate party.

Jeff P. talked about this year’s District goal for the Foundation. It is one million dollars. Last year the District raised $604,290.00. We were in the top 10 in the District last year.

Mary Alice was given her official Blue Badge.

Hank is undergoing MAJOR surgery on Weds. at Swedish. He should be home in 10 days. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.

Jennifer again pushed the peach sale. Please help us raise money.

Jennifer met with Mayor Pye and he assured her that the city still wants us involved with The State of Our City function. He also will help us with membership by having us at a business leaders breakfast.

Rebuilding Together project is on for 10/6. Please contact Ken Hope or Pete to volunteer. We need at least 15 to make this wonderful project a success. It gives us a great opportunity to do a project in our own city.

The Rotary Leadership Institute is October 5 and 6th. Please contact Jennifer for details.

Project Cure is this Thursday.

President Jennifer’s Challenge--I have seen Willie Nelson in concert twice and the person’s favorite song is "He stopped loving her today," by George Jones. No one guessed that the person was Jennifer.

Travel gifts were brought by Marc G. and Roxy. Looks like this year’s Holiday party will have a bevy of items for the auction.

Happy Bucks

  • Marc started his collection by putting in a buck because his wife started his hair cut without putting on the guard. Hence the really short part on the back of his head.
  • Marc’s presidential question was about "OK" and Martin Van Buren.
  • Number 2 question was "what has an IQ of 86 and 2 teeth. The answer was "the front row at a Willie Nelson concert."
  • Frank L. gave money as his son and daughter-in-law were in California last week.
  • Kent for running the race on Saturday that we are volunteering at.
  • Barb gave $2, one for her folks 50th anniversary with 140 people and the second for her leaving for Italy tomorrow for 2 weeks.
  • Paul for scooting.
  • Dan R. and Kye for various reasons.
  • Laurie in thanks for the team for helping with the heavy load of speaker mugs.
  • Tom B. for their 7th grandchild.

Program

International Development Enterprises--Heidi Wilkens and a friend.

IDE was started in Colorado about 25 years ago by Paul Polck.

It is now a $12,000,000 organization in 10 countries.

The poor are poor because they don’t have the ability to earn an income. Given that opportunity, thee poor will work themselves out of their dire situations.

One billion people live on a buck a day or less.

Most of these are subsistent farmers and many others live off the land exclusively. These are the clients of IDE.

One solution for ending poverty is to develop food security, build assets and to generate income.

IDE doesn’t give away anything except technology, training and knowledge.

They offer affordable solutions by providing access to water by drip irrigation and treadle pumps. They market and train at the village level.

Marbles

Dan R. pulled a clear marble and didn’t win the $351.
