ProgramInternational Development Enterprises--Heidi Wilkens and a friend. IDE was started in Colorado about 25 years ago by Paul Polck. It is now a $12,000,000 organization in 10 countries. The poor are poor because they don’t have the ability to earn an income. Given that opportunity, thee poor will work themselves out of their dire situations. One billion people live on a buck a day or less. Most of these are subsistent farmers and many others live off the land exclusively. These are the clients of IDE. One solution for ending poverty is to develop food security, build assets and to generate income. IDE doesn’t give away anything except technology, training and knowledge. They offer affordable solutions by providing access to water by drip irrigation and treadle pumps. They market and train at the village level. MarblesDan R. pulled a clear marble and didn’t win the $351.
