Rotary Minute

Kent did a quick show and tell. He shared with us the booklet he spoke about last week. It is called the Rotary Handbook and was authored by Past R.I. President, Cliff Doctorman and his wife Dorothy. They wrote in 1980 and Cliff was a former U.Hills member.

Kent also asked what the Rotary motto is.

Jennifer reminded everyone about the Board meeting on 9/6 at 7:10 a.m. at her office. There is a membership meeting at her office on Weds. at 5:30 p.m.

Roxy passed out information on the US-Kenya Economic Forum, sponsored by the Arapahoe Co. Public Airport Authority. Special Guest Raila Odinga, possible next President of Kenya will speak. Please RSVP to Roxy.

Jenn thanked Roxy for all her incredible work on the website and keeping with the activity schedule. We found out that Roxy needs a lot of strokes, so please say good things to her each week.

Jeff P. updated us regarding Hank. He had another surgery Monday to correct a blockage in his stomach.

Happy Bucks

Marc collected money for the following reasons after asking the trivia question--What President’s parrot got booted out of his funeral procession for "salty" language?

  • Mary Alice and Charles gave much more than a dollar for announcing that they are first time grandparents.
  • Frank Loner for ?
  • Jeff P. for his prized VW.
  • Paul to Marc G. for something wonderful he did again.
  • Randy for a week in Vegas and the Sox Place acceptance of our recent food donation.
  • Tom B. for their recent camping trip to Steamboat.
  • Ben for a birthday and his MIL being in town.
  • Jenn had her Dad in town last week and for Andres.
  • Roxy welcomed Andres too and her daughter was in a movie.
  • Greg for his son being in Miami with a new advertising job.
  • Pete was happy we aren’t a singing Club?!

Answer to trivia--Andrew Jackson and the parrot’s name was Pete.

Program

Ron Ludwig spoke about the Conflict Center and their upcoming event.

The 11th Annual Ambassador of Peace Award Event will be held on Thursday 10/25. The keynote speaker will be Reverend Leon Kelly, gang prevention veteran.

The Center’s mission is to reduce levels of physical, emotional and verbal violence, by teaching and applying skills to help people in a diverse community manage their everyday conflicts nonviolently.

It is tough to put more details about programs in this newsletter, so please plan on attending more meetings. Our speaker next week, 9/4 will be Jaclyn Wilmot, National MS Society.
