Project Cure has moved to a new larger location, which happens to be very close to our club location. Jeff Piercy sent a sign-up sheet around for volunteer sign-ups.
Rebuilding Together is set for October 6th. Our club will be working on a townhome and the team now has the technical leader it needed. Contact Kent to sign up to help. All volunteers must be over 16. Kent will send out an e-mail with a link to the on-line liability waiver and sign-up.
The holiday party is scheduled for December 15th this year.
Happy Bucks:
- Tom Cycota – generously gave $5 out of thankfulness that we allowed him to return after missing so many meetings (or was it guilt?).
- Barb – in appreciation to Charlie for being willing to carpool with his Triumph.
- Bill Simmerman – just to tell us how much he enjoyed the laughs he gets when he visits our club
- Brian Mogg – in remembrance of the 9/11/01 tragedy and thankfulness that today’s meeting wasn’t spent watching the news as was done at the meeting 6 years ago.
- Greg Cottrell won the presidential quiz. The answer were a) Lincoln was the tallest president at 6’-4”, b) Madison was the smallest at 5’4” and less than 100 lbs, and c) Taft was the largest at over 300 lbs.
- Jennifer chipped in $1 each for a) Iowa winning and Michigan losing and b) a fine for going out with the girls on her anniversary (although the editor of this portion of the newsletter fails to see the problem here)
Program:
Centennial Mayor Randy Pye was our guest speaker. He started off by discussing many of the recent changes and accomplishments made by the city:
- A recent nationwide search for a new city manager resulted in the current deputy city manager being highly recommended for the job, and she was recently promoted to city manager, to unanimous approval and ovation by the city staff.
- City services are being renewed and reworked. A new agreement with the county sheriff is close to being completed. The city is in the process of taking over and contracting out public works, rather than outsourcing it to the county.
- Current and upcoming road projects include many parts of Arapahoe, parts of Dry Creek, and other major intersections around town. The intersections of I-25 & Arapahoe and Parker & Arapahoe are still in the planning stages, but are the top priority for the Arapahoe corridor.
The city has kicked off a Vision 2030 project to strategize and plan for the future. Part of that project includes setting up a home-rule charter. To help get business community input on the charter, Centennial Rotary is co-hosting meetings at the Franciscan Event Center on the mornings of September 19th and 27th.
Drawing:
Mark Gale won the instant prize, but failed to draw the blue marble to win the pot.
